This R2 unit is in prime condition, a real bargain. Come on, you had to know that joke was coming but Star Wars quotes aside, this is actually a great deal.
Mashable has gone on and on about how much we love the app-enabled, educational robots from Sphero. The company that brought BB-8 to life has consistently been at the top of the very competitive Guerra de las Galaxias toys market, and the R2-D2 unit lives up to their hefty reputation. The Sphero R2-D2 action figure is the only one on the market that has a retractable leg just like the movie version. That’s far from it’s only selling point, however.
Like all Sphero toys, this R2-D2 is programmable from the educational app, which lets kids program the robot and complete STEM activities. The Guerra de las Galaxias toys can also be controlled from the DroidApp and you’ll recognize many of the movements, like the scene where R2 is shot by Jawas and falls over. The built-in speakers and LED lights also provide added authenticity, and there’s even a holographic simulation. Bottom line: this is as close to the movie R2-D2 that you’re gonna get (even if it is a little short to be R2.)
Any STEM toy would make a fantastic and educational gift for the kids in your life, but this R2-D2 version is especially timely with El último Jedi working up so much Guerra de las Galaxias holiday hype this year.
Amazon is offering $50 off the Sphero R2-D2 App-Enabled Droid Action Figure as one of its Black Friday deals. That makes it $129.99, down from the original price of $179.99.
